Give a site to a client

You built a site on your team. Your client wants it on theirs. Send it to them: the pages, domains and contacts move to their team, and the site stays online while it moves.

Before you start

Your role
Only an Owner of the site's team can give it away.
Paid memberships
A site with renewing paid memberships can't move. Wind them down first: renewals stop, and members keep access until the period they paid for ends. One-time purchases don't block a move.
The client's team
It needs room for one more site on its plan, must not be suspended, and must have accepted the current terms. A team with no plan yet can take the site as its first, but has to choose a plan before it can launch it.

01

Give the site

Open the site, then Settings → Advanced → Give this site to someone else.

  1. 1

Enter your client's email address. Add a note if you like; it goes in their email.

  2. 2

To keep working on the site after it moves, tick Keep me on the team as a helper.

  3. 3

Read what moves and what stays. Anything that blocks the move is listed first.

  4. 4

Type the site's name and confirm. Your client gets an email with a link.

Until your client accepts, the site is still yours. You can cancel the offer at any time before they accept. It expires after 7 days.

02

Receive the site

This part is for the client. You don't need a PagesPrinter account before you start.

  1. 1

Open the link in the email.

  2. 2

Sign in with the code we email you. If you have no account, signing in creates one. Use the address the offer was sent to.

  3. 3

Pick the team that gets the site, or make a new team. You must be an Owner or Admin of that team.

  4. 4

Accept, or decline if you don't want it.

Moving takes a minute or so. During the move the site stays online, but nobody can edit it, launch it or change its domains. When it's done, the site is in your dashboard.

What moves

Everything that belongs to the site moves to the new team.

Pages and files
The preview, every release, media and uploads.
Apps and their data
Forms and their answers, the blog, books, courses, members and tiers, licence keys and receipts.
Contacts
The contacts and the email list, with the record of what each person agreed to.
Domains
Custom domains move and keep working. Nobody has to change DNS.
The look
If the site used your team's brand, that brand is copied into the site's own brand, so the site looks the same afterwards.
Activity
The site's activity history.

What stays or changes

Selling
Selling pauses. The new team connects its own Stripe account to sell again.
Past sales
Orders and payouts from before the move stay on the sender's Stripe account. Refunds of those sales are made there.
API and agent keys
The sending team's keys stop reaching the site. The new team uses its own keys.
Usage
Usage up to the move stays on the sender's team. New usage counts on the new team.
The sender's access
Ends when the move is done. If the sender asked to stay as a helper, they get a normal invitation to the new team and accept it like any other.

Between your own teams

If you own both teams, pick the other team in the same dialog instead of entering an email address. The site moves as soon as you confirm, with no email and nothing to accept.

Questions

How long does my client have to accept?
7 days. After that the offer expires. You can cancel it at any time before it is accepted.
My client's plan has no room. What now?
They can choose a bigger plan, or pick another of their teams. A team with no plan yet can take the site as its first, then choose a plan before they launch it.
The site has paid members. Can it still move?
Not while their memberships renew. Wind the memberships down first: renewals stop and each member keeps access until the period they paid for ends. Buyers of one-time purchases keep their access, and those sales don't block the move.
What happens to Stripe?
Selling pauses when the site moves. The new team connects its own Stripe account to start selling again. Earlier orders and payouts stay on the sender's Stripe account, and refunds of those sales are made from there.
Do we need to change DNS?
Custom domains move with the site and keep working, so the DNS records stay as they are.
Does the site go offline?
Visitors still see it. For the minute or so the move takes, nobody can edit it, launch it or change its domains.
